2nd Annual Market Outlook Event
Thomson Financial hosted a dynamic panel of leading industry commentators and analysts who shared their views of opportunities and trends in the global markets as we head into 2008. The panel was led by Susan Lisovicz, CNN's primary correspondent on financial news. She is most frequently seen from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), where she also reports for CNN International, Headline News, and CNN Radio on the latest market and business news. The panel participants were Kathleen Bostjancic (Senior Director and US Economist at Merrill Lynch), Carla Casella (Managing Director for JPMorgan Global High Yield Research), Rhonda Staskow (Regional Director, Foreign Exchange Americas, IFR Markets Forex Watch at Thomson Financial), and Amanda Tepper (Managing Director and Associate Director of Equity Research at Banc of America Securities LLC).
Sarah Dunn, Executive Vice President at Thomson Financial, and Susan Green, Principal at Bank of America, opened the event with introductory remarks. Several themes dominated the discussion, including the potential impact of the housing market slowdown and subprime mortgage meltdown on consumer spending; expectations for interest rate movements in the U.S. and abroad; implications of the ongoing decline in the dollar against major foreign currencies; and growth and valuation trends in the largest emerging markets. And as always, the panelists shared their insights into potential strategies for U.S. investors in this turbulent market. After the question and answer session, Debra Baker (Managing Director at The Bank of New York Mellon) closed the event with a brief summary of the discussion's highlights. The evening ended with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, giving event attendees the opportunity to mingle and explore the evening's themes with each other as well as with the distinguished panelists.
