Ellen O'Dwyer is a member of the WBC scholarship committee and a mentor to Samantha Kong, a WBC scholarship winner, Baruch college student and Bank of New York Mellon intern. Ellen has been a mentor to Samantha for two years, and in this role, Ellen has leveraged her professional recruiting skills to help Samantha obtain two summer internship positions at Bank of New York Mellon.
Ellen has always felt that a mentor can make a tremendous difference in a young person’s life and has mentored Samantha on college and career development, including helping Samantha write and update her resume and preparing Samantha for job interviews. Ellen also helped identify Samantha’s first internship. Throughout the year, Ellen has kept in contact with Samantha by email, or by meeting for lunch, to discuss not only career topics, but also topics such as family, school, vacations and hobbies and interests. The mentoring relationship has helped Samantha "come out of her shell" and communicate more confidently, both personally and professionally. Over the two years, Ellen has seen Samantha grow from a smart and hard working student into a mature and personable professional.
Celebrating Samantha's successes has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for Ellen.
