On June 11, the WBC Community Outreach Committee hosted an 'Off to College Shower' for the 60 members of the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women's 2010 second graduating Class. The UASBYW prepares students to become business leaders by exploring many areas of business and a variety of career options, and teaching them how to succeed in a diverse, ever-changing business environment. All of the graduating seniors have been accepted to college and the 'Off to College Shower' was a wonderful way for the WBC to congratulate the students. Tracey Coates, Rosa Alaimo, Irene Collado and Michele Tomic were the co-chairs of the event and donated much time and effort to reach out for donations to fill totes with an alarm clock, flashlight, travel cases, and various other goodies. Also, a big thank you to Deloitte and IBM for their very generous cash donations which were used to purchase items off of the gift registry and Commerzbank for donating purple totes to hold all of the gift items. The WBC wishes the students the best of luck in the year to come and look forward to 'showering' the new seniors next year. Click here for event pictures. WBC Annual Meeting and Scholarship Awards. Barclay's Capital hosted the WBC Annual Meeting and Scholarship Awards on June 2, 2010. The evening started with a reception for the scholarship winners. This is an annual tradition to recognize the winners and the people who have supported them during their high school career such as parents, college advisors and principals. It is also when most winners formally meet their mentors for the first time. The reception was followed by the annual meeting where co-president Liz Byrnes gave her presentation and each committee chair gave their reports. After the WBC business was completed, Vicki Morgenstein awarded six $20,000 scholarships to deserving young women from a variety of Manhattan High Schools. The event ended with a cocktail hour where members and scholarship winners had an opportunity to network. As always, this was a proud occasion for the winners, their families and the Women’s Bond Club, enabling the WBC to showcase one of our key programs that gives back to the community and helps prepare and support potential future leaders in our industry.
